To keep things simple, to get your site ranked higher on search engines you want to be two things: important and relevant.

There are two ways to show that you are important and relevant. On-Page SEO, which are the things you can do directly on your website, and Off-Page SEO which are things you can do around the rest of the internet to show your site is important.

On-Page SEO

Search engines crawl your site code to find out what you are all about. So you need a correctly designed site with keyword optimized content.

Keep in mind that you also don’ want tot over optimize. Too many keywords will also get your penalized. It’s best to focus on providing value to your website visitor first.

An internal link structure is also important, so make sure to add links to other pages within your site.

Off-Page SEO

One of the strongest factors of SEO is backlinks, because if you are an important site, you naturally get backlinks.

It’s important to note that while high-quality backlinks are super good for your site rankings, low quality spammy links can send your site plummeting.

What are some good ways to get good quality backlinks? Quality directories and citations. And just asking for links are a good idea. You are more likely to get a link if you are offering something, like a guest post, or if you already have content that’s useful for them to link to.

Content Creation

As we learned previously, keyword optimized content is great for SEO, but great quality content is also good because people will want to link to you.

Blogs are one of the easiest ways you can create content, and if you have a WordPress site, which you probably do, considering so much of the internet [put stat here] is, blogging functionality is included already in your website.

If you can be a guest on a popular podcast, you can probably get a link back to your website, in addition to listeners just looking you up and finding your site from there. It also helps show you as an expert in your field.

You can also make your own podcast, and if you can make it popular enough its also a good way to get people to visit your site.

Videos

Making videos can get more people to visit your website to find more about you and what your video is about. Videos are also a great way to add rich media to your blog posts.
